How to use keywords

Knowing what words customers use when searching for a product will help you rank your products organically so customers can find them easily.

Here are some examples so you know how to use keywords correctly:

  • “Zapatillas” vs “Zapatos” vs “Calzado

When analysing the graphs, it can be observed that the more specific the keyword is, the higher the number of searches. For example, the word “zapatillas” (which means “sneakers” in English) registers over 1,000% more searches than the more general term “calzado” (which means “footwear”). Similarly, the word “zapatos” (which means “shoes” in English) has over 400% more searches compared to “calzado”. These data indicate that users tend to be more precise in their searches, opting for more specific terms rather than general ones.

  • “Celular” vs “Smartphone”

When analysing the two graphs, an interesting fact is revealed: the word “celular” is searched 2000% more than the word “smartphone”. This is because in Chile it is more common to use the term “cell phone” to refer to a “smartphone” device. Therefore, it would be advisable to use the term “cell phone” when addressing the Chilean public, since it is the most used and recognized term in the local context.

  • ”Smartwatch” vs Reloj inteligente

In the graphs you can see a similar search behaviour between “smartwatch” and “reloj inteligente” (Spanish word for smartwatch), but the difference is that the number of people who searched for the word “smartwatch” is considerably higher (400% more) than those who searched for “reloj inteligente“.
